The potential in bullfight

Bull fighting as one of the ancient sports in Kenya has attracted tourists therefore generating income into the country. The bull fight takes place annually in the western region of Kenya and it attracts large crowds of people who pay to watch the fight.

unlike the Spanish bull fights where the bulls challenge matadors here the bulls fight themselves. One party writes a request to another party to engage in a fight with them. if the party agrees they then look for a location where they meet for the fight. the two animals lock horns and square it out for five or thirty minutes.Image

Men dance and sing with sticks encouraging the bulls to keep on fighting. A lot of beer is served at the venue as this sport is mostly famous with the males. The winning team is then awarded money or other valuables depending on the agreement.

The sport which people have termed as primitive and unpopular has turned out to be a source of entertainment and revenue. The government has since seen the potential in this sport and has decided to build a stadium in Shinyalu.

the stadium will not only be a bullfight ground but it will also host other sports like football, rugby and many others. The stadium is also expected to host other activities like traditional music festivals.

Aside

Image

Running as a sport has not been taken seriously in Kenyan universities. one is left to wonder and question why is this the situation? The stereotype that only people from the kalenjin community can run seem to  be true because whenever we hear of any  running sport we only hear names of people from that community. But really should this be the situation in any university where we have a collection of students from different backgrounds with different abilities? No it should not be so its a high time that we reintroduced the sport and start campaigns that would help boost running as a sport in the universities. Kenyans are also famous for running long distance races and the small races like 100meters and 200meters have been left to America and Jamaica which seem to dominate the two races . By reintroducing running sport in the universities we might actually get young talented spirits which are willing and able to fight the giants which have dominated the short races in the world championship. it might also help the Kenyan society get rid of the stereotype that only Kalenjins can run.

THE PLIGHT OF KENYA’S BASKETBALL TEAM

Image

I usually dream of that day when kenya will not only be known for just athletics ad rugby but also basketball. Sincerely speaking am sure there is a kenyan in Garissa who doesn’t know a single kenyan basketball player or worse enough the coach of the basketball team. Ok, am not an excption coz i only know to players n maybe the coach. but i will have to google it to be sure. Back to the blog. I know your busy wondering how the hell can i know only 2players and not be so sure about the coach. hold on before you go judgmental on ME, i have my reasons. its not my fault that inknow few of them but its because we rarely hear the kenyan basketball team being mentioned. and thats is in kenya itself. What about the whole world? Its like it doesn’t exist. or maybe its a ghooooooosst! hehehe #Erick behave here# i usually here the basketball teams of schools and thats during the competitons and tournaments bu not the national team. So should we blame the media aor blame the team itself or lets not forget the management

Benefits of Sports.

Have you ever thought why people do sports? Absolutely, many people seem not to know the reasons. As a anecdote, there are many people who do sports for nothing around us. Everyday we can encounter with these people. They regularly do sports; however, none of them realizes the benefits and importance of sports. In fact, vice versa, some people want to be fit and attractive, look smart. Unfortunately, these people can’t consider other benefits of sports. In my opinion, there are several benefits of sports that people often do not consider: sports are required to be healthy people, are needed for enjoyment, and are great market for countries’ economies.
Sports can help people to be healthy and fit. Throughout history, people can’t give up their interest at their body. I believe that now many people love themselves no matter how beautiful or ugly they are. Naturally, people’s first aim should be healthy and fit with the benefits of sports. Due to this fact that Sports keep our body healthy. As a possible.Sports balance our body’s blood pressure and circulation.
Another important benefit of sports is that it is a huge market for countrie’s economy. First of all, if we look at only football industry it helps to bring in money because the players are paid, the couches etc.  sports allow advertisement companies to make publicity of strong brands. For example, sponsorship is one of the best publicity of one company. Everyone watches their favorite team or athlete, and audience will probably see the sponsor of team or athlete
All in all, we can conclude that there are several advantages and benefits of sports. First, sports are required by people to be fit, smart, and good looking. Second, sports are entertaining due to many facts. Third, sports are the huge market for countries’ economies. In my opinion, despite sports’ advantages, many people can’t believe that sports are useful and beneficial. I hope that in the future these people will tend to be more optimistically to sports since they are the necessity of our lives.

MISERY OF THE MMU BASKETBALL TEAM

Image

If you have ever played basketball in a rough ground or worse enough having to practice in one court when you are the whole team and each player using their own basketballs in that one basketball court? Am guessing some of you have and others have not. One thing for sure is that it isn’t that much of fun and those who have gone through such an experience can second me on that. For a university its more embarrassing to have their basketball players go through such a state which if it was at a high school; well am not degrading high schools but will all know am saying the truth; will be much better. So I am literally pitching for the players right now.

As a student in the school I would say it’s very awkward how since the school’s students center was engulfed in flames last semester, till now the school has made zero effort to fix the place. Makes you wonder why the hell are they preserving the place. It isn’t a RUIN. Okay, back to basketball. The school main basketball court is found at the MMU RUIN if I may call it and the gates of the place have been shut closed. So the players have been forced to go and do the training at a court behind the girl’s hostels. Out of negligence the court has grew grass and it is paved so when you dribble the ball, the chances coming back to your hands are ummm! 60% and I am being generous here with my fury the administration.

I think someone in the school is seriously drooling at their desk because with the basketball team performance it’s a miracle who the keep winning at such an environment. So the sports official in the school should really chip in and fix the issue ASAP!

KARATE IN MULTIMEDIA UNIVERSITY

ImageMultimedia university introduced Karate in order to help students develop self control and to ba able to defend themselves. Tsuki (punching), uchi (striking), keri (kicking), and uke (blocking), are the fundamental karate techniques. They are at once the beginning and the final goal of karate. Students can easily learn to perform these basic movements in little more than two months, but perfection in their performance may be impossible. Therefore, students must practice regularly and employ maximum concentration and effort in the performance of each movement. However, practice will not achieve its object if it is undertaken incorrectly. Unless students learn techniques on a scientific basis, under an instructor employing a systematic and properly scheduled training system, their efforts will be in vain. Karate training can be considered scientific only when it is conducted on the basis of correct physical and physiological principles.

MMU HOCKEY THRASHED

ImageThe Multimedia University hockey team for ladies started the ongoing  Hockey National league on a bad note after being beaten by the Kenyatta University team 5-0 at City park. Grace Moraa was the first on target on the 16th minute.

The second half proved to be the worst moment for MMU ladies as KU team scored in a span of 25 minutes. Grace scored the third goal while Nana Baraza scored the forth and fifth goal.

The Kenyatta University head coach Dominic Mutwol praised his side and said his girls have improved a lot and that they have the capacity to lift the league. While MMU coach George Jalang’o blamed the referees of the game saying they were not fair enough and that they favored the Kenyatta University team. He said, “A lot of errors occurred in the field but the referees were not doing their jobs. Very many fouls were committed by KU players but all these were ignored.” However he said he will look into the improvement of the whole team.

Jalang’o also challenged the hockey management to get qualified referees who will do their work without favoritism. This happened after the defending champions, MMU hockey team for boys beat Thika Rovers 3-0 to continue remaining at the top of the league with clear nine points.

Both teams are back in the University and have started practice for next weekend’s matches.
